GE Trip Yesterday!!

I went to GE yesterday and I had $100 budget. I needed to get things to get us through the next 2 weeks and I had to take advantage of the FREEBIES this week! I spent $93.05 for everything in the picture. I saved $118!

All of the Dole fruit jars and snack packs were Money Makers as well as the Mr. Clean/Febreze Products!!!

If you cant see it from the picture this trip included a case of beer (which came with a $5 MIR), a case of water, 5 boxes of cereal, 2 pack of poptarts, several gallons of milk, produce, snacks for the kids and much much more!

For those of you that are new to couponing and have learned about it from the Extreme Couponing show on TLC this is a much more realistic shopping trip of savings then you see on the show. If you are saving at least 50% off your grocery bills then you are doing a GREAT job.

The show depicts 99% savings in each episode but in reality they are buying 50 of the same items that ended up being free that week. There are usually 2-3 items that will end up for free or a money maker at any given store but who buys 50 bottles of Gatorade or 40 boxes of pasta when they run to the store. Not very many people!!

A more realistic approach for everyday families is to buy the things you need when they are on sale and when there are coupons available for them. If you stock up on the items you use the most when they are at the rock bottom price and have enough of that product until the sale comes around again (typically every 3-4 months) then you will see significant savings over time. This will prevent you from having to run out and pay retail for it when your supply runs low.

If you are not saving 99% every time you go to the store, don't worry most of us are not either! Items like bread, produce, and meats are very hard to get for free but if you are saving on all of the other items like cereal, canned goods and household and personal care items then you are making up for those other pricey things that most families need on a weekly basis.

Couponing has changed the way I shop and I know I have saved several thousands of dollars already this year and although getting $700 worth of free groceries is possible it is not very realistic for the average family.

Not meaning to be snarky, just curious! Do you freeze some of that milk?

Actually, 4 gallons will be gone in 5 days or less. My family drinks almost a gallon of milk a day. If I find it less then $2 I will usually buy 10 gallons and its all gone long before it expires : )

If I were in the gallon-a-day stage, I'd be doing the same thing!
